I'm a trained actress and have been doing all types of performance work since my first job in 1996.
I have always known what I wanted to do with my life and am fully dedicated to acting.
In 2007 I completed a fascinating B.A. Honors degree in 'Devising Theatre' at Dartington, after first completing a two year BTEC in performing arts in Exeter. During those five years consecutive study, I have done various extra work in both commercial as well as small scale art films, including 'Casualty' 'Jam and Jerusalem' 'To the Manor Born' and the feature film, 'King Arthur'.
My acting preference is Method Acting, and though not exclusively so, I find it the most useful method of 'getting into a character'. This is helped by the fact that having travelled so extensively, and interrelated with so many cultures and life styles, I have a huge range of life experiences to draw upon for my age.
I can readily imagine and understand any character, and by allowing myself to believe I have temporarily merged with it, and by fully understanding my characters psychology, I become instinctive in how to react to stimuli from other actors, naturally reacting within and drawing on the character's particular qualities.
It is well documented that to use Method Acting, it is first necessary to have a strong and well grounded sense of self, without which some actors can get lost in the interior landscape of the role they are playing. I do have a firm and well grounded sense of self to operate from, and can readily enter into almost any role and leave my normal character behind, though always feel enhanced by the experience.
Besides film work, I'm trained and experienced in classical stage acting particularly Shakespeare, and have become good at understanding and using Old English in a very natural way, and readily grasp the dynamic behind the spoken text. I enjoy immersing myself in his genius and consider him a great source of inspiration to my practice. I have a passion for these old texts and greatly desire to perform many more of his plays.
Beside method acting, I love improvisation and have developed and taught many innovative techniques of my own.
I also feel strongly that actors and directors need to have an instinctual, as well as intellectual communication, in order to produce profound results. It's important whether they work collaboratively or traditionally, to sense what is wanted by subtle as well as overt communication, as this can be on many levels. I feel it important the actor can understand the director's process as sometimes they might not know exactly what they are looking for, or be able to fully capture it in words. A good actor I feel, can merge into the directors process just as they would into their character role, and become an intuitive extension of the directive process, improvising until the perfect alchemy comes about. I have a natural aptitude for this kind of understanding and can extend myself with ease into this process, as can be testified by the directors I have worked with.
