proto.beamaz - enriching the club culture with rythm, feel and live cinema visuals since 1999.
fALk Gärtner - founder of proto.beamaz, a subsidiary of prototypen.com, comes from a traditional documentary video background: having grown up with a complete professional video production and post production studio in his parent's basement in East Germany, he then studied communication design while living next door to Berlin the years after the wall came down, fusing his influences into a unique high quality live performance that stretches contemporary attempts at definition.
Fed up with the "empty" eye candy visuals of the rave generation, fALk brings narrative storytelling techniques and meaningful content to the screens, in a distinct style that integrates design, typography and live video mixing together with the club atmosphere – always rhythmic and flowing with the music – dark, technical and mystical.
fALk's performing presence on stage has encouraged audiences to experience the event on a deeper level as they make the connection that not only music can be mixed seamlessly, provocatively, and with a flair for live interpretation based on their response, but that visual content can be sampled live, chopped and remixed into a spontaneous joy for not only for the physical senses, but for the inner eye as well. fALk is definately not just a mouse clicker behind a pile of cables and machines -- his complete mental and physical engagement with the mixer and laptops has earned him the respect of peers and crowds alike, as they watch him tickle every last millisecond of sensitivity out of them with fluid fingertip control, to mix his immaculately pre-produced thematic material in synch with the ebb and flow of the DJ's every frequency, and bending the classic distinction between sound and vision.
In the past years he has demonstrated that the combination of style, content, and performance with the participation of the audience compliments events from 5 to 50.000 people. He has played alongside many musicians and DJs such as Paul van Dyk, Westbam, LTJ Bukem, Rythm&Sound, Marky and many more. fALks involvement with the chaos computer club and the blinkenlights project enabled him to play on one tower of the French National Library in Paris and the two tower of the Toronto City Hall - the largest screens any VJ has ever played on to date.
As member of the laptop VJ generation he is committed to bringing the VJ scene closer together through his activities as one of the founding members of the AVIT - world wide VJ conferences, including the organization of AVIT events in Berlin.
fALk's creative activities and thirst for perfection in all elements of his performances enable him to maintain a commitment to the the communicative roots in club culture which embraces the value of a dialog between venue, artists and the crowd.
Proto.beamaz is growing into a vj collective and is focused on bringing the concept of Live Cinema to life and mesmerize audiences across the globe with unique stories about subculture, the future and the now.
